Honda Accord and Civic Type R Earn Spots on 2018 AUTOMOBILE All-Stars List
The editors at AUTOMOBILE magazine choose an All-Stars list every year, and the Honda Accord and Civic Type R both made the list in 2018, making Honda the most represented automaker on the list. The editors of AUTOMOBILE note the 2018 Accord has a no-compromise package offers ample interior space, agile driving dynamics, engaging powertrain, and intelligent engineering. The 2018 Civic Type R was AUTOMOBILE’s only unanimous selection, praised for its incredible performance that rivals far more expensive and exotic sports cars, value, and everyday usability.
“To receive two All-Star nods in one year speaks to how special we think Honda’s recent offerings have been,” says Mike Floyd, AUTOMOBILE editor-in-chief. “The new 10th-generation Accord is a meticulously engineered sedan with soul, especially in Sport trim, and the Civic Type R is arguably the greatest performance car for the money available today. From family haulers to hauling butt, Honda continues to blow us – and the competition – away.”
To receive AUTOMOBILE’s consideration for the All-Star honors, vehicles must be all-new, heavily revised, or have a significant variation from previous year’s model when it goes on sale within 12 months of All-Star testing. Both Honda vehicles received significant refreshes, putting them back in the running for this award.
Honda redesigned the Accord from the ground-up. Its structure is not only lighter but also more rigid. The redesigned Accord incorporates a more sophisticated, sleek, and athletic look for the exterior while maintaining legroom inside the cabin and adding a few more comfort features, including heated and ventilated seafront seats and heated rear seats.
The 2018 Honda Accord’s engine options include two all-new VTEC turbocharged engines that produce 192 and 252 horsepower, a swift 10-speed automatic transmission, and available new-generation two-motor hybrid technology. The Accord also includes a host of new safety, driver-assistive and connected-car technologies like automatic emergency braking system, road-departure mitigation, and adaptive cruise control.
The new Honda Civic Type R takes its racing heritage and instills it into a dynamic everyday vehicle that’s anything but ordinary. With 306 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque coming from the brawny 2.0-liter direct-injected VTEC turbo engine, the Civic Type R is the most powerful Honda ever sold in America. The 2018 Type R is available in one equipped trim with a short-throw six-speed manual transmission, limited-slip differential, adaptive suspension, and an advanced dual-axis strut front suspension design to minimize torque steer.
The performance-inspired cabin features bolstered, race-ready bucket seats, chrome sport pedals, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with a flat bottom that gives you the feeling and grip you need to feel confident in tight turns on the race track or in the city.
