Honda Accord Vs. Chevy Impala

By Justin Cupler | March 31st, 2019

Need a roomy sedan with space for the entire family and all your luggage? The 2019 Honda Accord and 2019 Chevy Impala offer our Rochester area buyers just that. Is the full-size 2019 Impala or the midsize 2019 Accord the better buy for your family? Find out below.

Exterior

The Honda Accord went through a big redesign in 2018, ushering in a more premium look. This look also added some maturity to the model with its flatter-nosed front end and wide chrome strip on the front, but it also gained a little sportiness with its almost coupe-like swoop to the roofline without impeding on rear-seat headroom. This look remains the same in 2019.

The Chevy Impala entered its 10th generation in 2014, and it remains the same in 2019. This means the 2019 Chevy Impala is still a land yacht by today’s standards at 201.3 inches long. That said, it boasts several sharp cutline along the body to help sport things up a bit. As a whole, though, the 2019 Chevy Impala is tuned for the older crowd who prefer something with a more classic twist to it.

As we said, the 2019 Impala is a land yacht at 201.3 inches, which makes it 9.1 inch longer than the Accord. It is also 1.8 inches taller, but the Impala’s wheelbase is just 0.3 inches longer.

Interior

The 2019 Honda Accord isn’t overly creative for its class, but it is still sharp with its wider climate-control area, floating infotainment screen, and horizontally oriented air vents, which all visually widen the dash. The Honda Accord also boasts tons of premium features, including leather upholstery, wood trim, a 450-watt audio system, a high-resolution touchscreen, and more.

The 2019 Impala may be an older design, but its interior is still sharp. Instead of being horizontally oriented like the Accord, the Impala has swoopy lines making up its dashboard. This adds a touch of playfulness to its more timid design. Plus, its trick touchscreen that raises to expose a storage area and ai USB charger add a little more uniqueness.

With its massive body comes a cavernous cabin in the 2019 Impala. It It beats the 2019 Accord in almost every measurable, but it really hands the Honda its lunch with an extra 3.5 inches of front-seat legroom and 2.1 cubic feet of trunk space. The Accord makes the most of its smaller body and trumps the Impala by 0.6 inches in rear legroom.

Performance

Performance is rarely the first thing family-sedan shoppers are thinking about, but the Honda Accord delivers a nice dab of it. With its standard engine, the Accord is perfectly fine but nowhere near fast. With its optional 252-horsepower 2.0-liter turbo engine, though, it rockets to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds.

The large-and-in-charge 2019 Chevy Malibu uses a 197-horsepower four-cylinder base engine, but its optional 3.6-liter V-6 engine delivers a more appropriate 305 horsepower for a 6.1-second 0-to-60 sprint,.

In the corners, the 2019 Honda Accord is respectable, especially in its more performance-oriented Sport trim. Despite having land-yacht proportions, the 2019 Impala is surprisingly stable and confident in the corners..
