Honda Fit Vs. Ford Fiesta Hatch

By Justin Cupler | April 8th, 2019

Subcompact hatchbacks offer buyers great fuel economy and loads of space without taking up a lot of room in their garages. The 2019 Honda Fit and 2019 Ford Fiesta Hatch offer buyers that and more. Which of these subcompact hatchback models is best for our Rochester area buyers? Find out below.

Exterior

The 2019 Honda Fit has an interesting look with its traditional wedge-like design that flow almost unimpeded from front the back. This design lends itself well to the sportier look the Sport trim adds with its black wheels, ground effects, and orange accents.

The 2019 Fiesta has a more traditional hatchback look with its distinct hood-to-windshield transition. But where the Fiesta separates itself from the Fit and most others in its class is its sporty-looking ST-Line trim and performance-oriented ST model that boast upgraded wheels, aero kits, and more.

In terms of size, the 2019 Fit is longer and taller than the Fiesta by a wide margin, but the Fiesta is 0.8 inches wider.

  • Sporty wedge-shaped design
  • Orange-accented Sport trim

Advantage: 2019 Ford Fiesta

  • Sporty ST-Line and ST models
  • Smaller and easier to manage

Interior

Inside, the 2019 Honda Fit continues with a modern-looking cabin with an available 7-inch touchscreen and leather interior to dress it up. Also, with its Magic Seat second row, the Fit boasts a crossover-like 52.7 cubes of cargo room. The Fit also has safety features the Fiesta cannot match, including adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and more.

The 2019 Ford Fiesta’s cabin, while packed with tech in its higher trims, is dated with its sea-of-black dash, bulky steering wheel, and recessed touchscreen. It does, however, have an added dose of sportiness inside the Honda Fit cannot match in its ST-Line and ST trims.

Inside, the 2019 Honda Fit is larger than the 2019 Fiesta in every measurable except rear hip room.

  • More model-looking cabin

  • Huge cargo area

Advantage: 2019 Ford Fiesta

  • Sporty ST-Line and ST cabins

Performance

In their standard guise, neither the 2019 Honda Fit nor the 2019 Ford Fiesta are fast cars, but they are far from awful. The 2019 Fit uses a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces up to 130 horsepower and 114 pound-feet of torque. This power flows through a standard six-speed manual transmission or an optional continuously variable transmission on its way to the front wheels. This results in an 8.2-second 0-to-60 sprint time.

The SE and ST-Line Fiesta models come with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that injects 120 horsepower and 112 pound-feet of torque through a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic for a 9.1-second run to 60 mph. The Fiesta ST adds a new wrinkle to the subcompact segment with its 1.6-liter turbocharged engine pumping out 197 horsepower and 202 pound-feet of torque. This sprints this more performance-oriented subcompact to 60 mph in just 6.9 seconds.
