2019 Honda Insight is Thrifty AND Safe, Per IIHS Testing

By Justin Cupler | August 24th, 2018

The IIHS continues testing the newest Honda models, and the 2019 Insight is one of those new models going through bangup tests. We already learned that the 2019 Pilot earned the IIHS’ Top Safety Pick+ designation, and now we learn the Insight is joining it.

The 2019 Honda Insight earned the IIHS’ top rating by scoring “Good” in all six crashworthiness tests and a “Superior” rating in the front crash avoidance test. What’s more, the latter score is thanks to its standard Honda Sensing system, so you don’t have to tick any option boxes to get this extra safety. You get it starting with the base $22,830 Insight LX.

The Insight also aced the headlight test with a “Good” rating and earned the highest “Good+” rating in the LATCH system test. This means the 2019 Honda Insight is not only one of the safest vehicles on the road, but it is also one of the easiest to install a child car seat in.

The 2019 Honda Insight sits atop the same platform as the Honda Civic Sedan, ensuring it has a great ride and handles well. Under its hood is a 105-horsepower 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a 129-horsepower electric motor. These power units combine to produce 151 horsepower and 197 pound-feet of torque. This all routes through a continuously variable transmission and to the front wheels.
